The objective of the proposal is to mark the battle site with an appropriate memorial and to provide information on the battlefield site.  This supports the following Stafford Borough Local Cultural Strategy and Archaeology Section policies:-

1: To promote and encourage the role of cultural services in the education training and learning opportunities of people in the Borough.

2: To develop a programme of education and interpretation for Stafford Borough Heritage and open spaces.

3: To Improve signage for cultural facilities and sites.

4: To promote intellectual and physical access to the historic environment as part of life-long learning.

5: To actively research and enhance our understanding of the historic environment within our area.

The two target audiences are local walkers and battlefield enthusiasts.  The objective is to inform existing local walkers about the Battle of Hopton Heath and to encourage others to walk to the site from within the locality.  It is not known how many people currently use the footpaths.  It is also not known how many battlefield enthusiasts are likely to visit the site.

Information about the West Midlands Branch of the Military Historical Societies efforts to raise a monument and interpretation panel to the English Civil War battle of Hopton Heath that was fought on the afternoon of Sunday 19 March 1642/3, and to try to establish an annual re-enactment / living history type event on the nearby Stafford County showground.
